Meet the shop

Seven paid APIs, each with its own price. The agent reads this list for free, then decides what's worth buying.

Prices per request, in USDC

How the agent pays

x402 lets software pay for what it uses, one request at a time. Here is one purchase, start to finish.

Search for “Lisbon hotels”, please.

  1. 1

The agent asks a shop's API for something, like any app would.

  2. 2

Instead of asking for a login or API key, the shop answers with its price. HTTP has had a 402 “Payment Required” code since the 90s; x402 finally puts it to use.

  3. 3

The agent checks the price against its hard limits, signs a one-cent payment from its wallet, and asks again with the payment attached.

  4. 4

The shop checks the payment, it settles on Solana in about a second, and the answer comes back. No account, no subscription, no card on file.

  5. Why it matters. Today an AI that needs a paid tool needs a person to sign up, add a card and paste in a key. With per-request payments and spending limits written in code, it can buy exactly what it needs, when it needs it, and never more than you allowed.

Got a task? Hand over the wallet.

Watch it shop, judge the prices and bring back change. It's test money, so be as nosy as you like.
